UNALONE 2022, what a magical experience! We can't thank you all enough for coming out with your positive energy and kind spirits.
As many of you know, UNALONE was our first attempt at turning our annual Bush Raves (a small private event we did out in the mountains) into a larger format public festival for everyone to come and enjoy. We brought together many groups of amazing party hosts with a long history of throwing banging ragers, and together we created UNALONE.
The festival was an amazing experience, folks funneled in on Friday afternoon and set up their camps. Old friends reconnected, strangers became new friends, a new family started to be born. The day gave way to night and the camp hangouts turned to dance parties in front of the bass bins. We raved the night away and as the sun came up for the next day we facilitated workshops, healing circles, and art. We did it, all of us together were creating something new, something unique.
Mother Nature, however, had other plans. See, Mother nature is boundlessly extravagant, full of endless beauty and wonder. She can be soft and sweet or loving and kind. But Mother Nature can be a cruel mistress as well. She decided to test our metal, see if we really were worthy to occupy her space or not. Those of you that were there you know what happened next. Winds started to blow, the sky turned an angry gray as the clouds descended upon us. Mother Nature doesn't give anything for free, the fruits of her bounty are reserved for only the hardest and toughest of Earth's creatures, and it was time for us to earn our spot.
As the winds whipped violently and the downpour started to come in buckets, we saw the true tenacity and caretaking power of our new community, the strength and leadership on display was awe-inspiring. People rushed to help secure tents that were blowing away, a task force was assembled to move all of the speakers and stage equipment into a nearby barn as the weather showed no signs of letting up. Everyone scrambled to secure whatever dry spot they could find. People running everywhere hammering in each other's tents, helping take care of each other and keep everyone warm and safe.
Through the storm we huddled in our cars and tents, holding on to hope, constantly looking around, looking for a way to help, searching for a sign. And then it came, the storm finally broke, the clouds receded and the wind calmed. We earned our spot. As everyone came out of their shelters and reconnected, an overwhelming feeling of joy and excitement started to manifest. We did it, we pushed through together, every single one of us is connected now, bonded through our mutual strength and determination. We gathered in the barn where a new stage had been constructed, and we partied on. Calling it a rager would be an understatement, everyone was so excited and grateful for what we had created together, what we had earned. We fought for this moment and we absolutely relished it.
The party continued well into Sunday morning, no one wanting to let go of the energy. As the party winded down and folks returned to their tents the sun rose upon a new scene, one that didn't exist on Friday. Among the scattered tents, blown over trees, and puddles of storm water, the sun rose over a new family, a community of like minded and passionate people that are willing to support and care for eachother, a community that won't back down or quit. The sun rose over a safe and nurturing space where creative expression is protected and can thrive.
From this experience we learned a lot as organizers and as people. Since the festival we have decided to create Alberta Bass, a new home for spiritual people looking for family. UNALONE is and always will be our baby, it's our flagship event, through supporting our events hosted by Alberta Bass, you help support UNALONE directly. Alberta Bass serves as the engine to drive UNALONE forward to new and amazing things.
